Thread & Sugar
Thread and Sugar is a work that focuses on my reflections as an expatriate, artist, and Inclusive Practitioner. These three aspects of myself were challenged and given the opportunity to thrive during the art research I conducted for my Master's Course, Inclusive Arts Practice.
Six expatriates, including myself met every Thursday night for a total of 8 times to create a temporary community and participate in my research as I studied how sewing collaboratively impacted our social well-being. This tapestry is my creative response to the emotions I felt and the thoughts I had during my research process. All the shapes have been individually honored, but together they represent the entire journey through the research. Thread and Sugar is a visual metaphor of the importance of the individual and the community.
